Gorenje the first Slovenian company with a European Works Council

The Gorenje European Works Council consists of 17 employees working at Gorenje's major companies in Slovenia, European Union member states (Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Croatia) and one employee from Serbia who currently has the status of an observer as Serbia is not yet a member of the European Union. Yesterday, the first, founding, session of the European Works Council took place in Velenje. Normally, Council members will meet with Gorenje Management Board twice per year.

Founding of a European Works Council at enterprises operating in several countries of the EU is regulated by the European Directive and the legislation in particular member states based thereon. The Council is an important partner in the dialogue between the management of an international company and employees working in a number of countries. The key purpose of the Council is to improve communication and to allow consultation on international issues of relevant for the development of company operations. 

The European Works Council is a common practice in reputable international corporations operating in the European Union.
