New Nordic ski season is under way

New Nordic ski season is under way
On November 21st 2011, Slovenian men's ski jumping and Nordic combination team held a press conference to announce the kick-off of the new World Cup season. The conference took place at the Gorenje showroom in Ljubljana. The team completed an exacting, yet successful preparation period and they are eager to prove how hard they have worked with this season's results.

Tomaž Lovše, Chairman of the Slovenian Ski Association, said at the press conference that he believed in the success of the ski jumping team which won the Bronze medal at the World Championship in Oslo in March this year. "I wish the lads the best possible season. At the Association, we have done everything to secure a solid budget which will allow quality training." President of the ski jumping and Nordic combination section Mr. Ljubo Jasnič explained that the construction of the Nordic center in Planica and the reconstruction of the Bloudek giant hill would not be completed as planned due to an appeal process. Therefore, jumping on the giant hill will most likely not be possible yet in this season. Head coach of the national team Mr. Goran Janus reported that the athletes thoroughly tested and selected their winter gear at the training camp in Klingenthal, Germany, and that they were able to compare their performance with that of some top class competitors from Finland, Poland, and Germany. "I believe we have a good package to open up the World Cup. We silently wish for a medal."

The main candidate to win a medal in the coming World Championship is the national record holder Robert Kranjec who is one of the best ski flyers. He seconded his coach's words: "This year's training camp was focused on fitness and therefore, everything has been in order thus far. My form was solid at the training camp." The second most experienced competitor is Jernej Damjan who took part in fewer competitions this summer, and is that much more eager to see the World Cup competitions. "I am pleased with everything that has been done and I can't wait for the start of the season, for the competition to begin, since only then will we really know how well we have done and how high we rank."
