Gorenje Helps to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Care

A total of £55,000 was raised during the evening at the Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show

The Gorenje team in Great Britain decided to join the activities of the Pink October, the European Brest Cancer Awareness Month. Thus, they attended a star studded gala dinner and fashion show on October 1st 2008 to raise money for one of the UK’s leading, breast cancer charities, Breast Cancer Care, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair, London. The evening included a charitable auction for which Gorenje contributed a unique pink retro fridge complete with a white gold encrusted Breast Cancer Care Ribbon made by Zlatarna Celje (Celje Goldsmith's). A total of £55,000 was raised during the evening.

The evening was hosted by former tennis star, Annabel Croft and attended by over 600 guests with several notable celebrities lending their support to the cause, including Olympian Denise Lewis, Cherie Booth QC and model and TV presenter Lisa Snowdon.

The evening's highlight was a fashion show that instead of professional models, featured women who survived and recovered from breast cancer. They truly shone on the catwalk. The fashion show was followed by an auction for ten luxury packages, with The Antiques Roadshow’s Tim Wonnacott as the auctioneer. Gorenje provided one of the most eye-catching lots of the night by donating a one-off pink retro fridge embellished with a white gold encrusted Breast Cancer Care Ribbon fitted with several zircons, which fetched £2,600 during a round of frenzied bidding. A staggering £55,000 was raised during the evening.

Loredana Butnaru, Marketing Director of Gorenje UK added “We are delighted to be associated with such an inspirational charity as Breast Cancer Care and we strongly support their efforts to improve the awareness and women's health. Events like this are perfect occasions for us to contribute our share.”

This was the third pink refrigerator manufactured by Gorenje exclusively for the Europa Donna and similar organizations that promote breast cancer care and awareness throughout Europe. The auctions in Ljubljana, Zagreb, and London will be followed by one in Split and Sarajevo, respectively, while cooperation is also being discussed with some other regional organizations of Europa Donna.
