Advantages of contemporary technological solutions for an environmentally conscious user
Contemporary consumers are increasingly aware that price and appearance can no longer be the sole criteria for decisions regarding the purchase of a household appliance; product's impact on the environment should also be considered as a major aspect. Every household consumes a lot of power to provide a good and comfortable life. Household appliances allow us to prepare and store food, provide heating and air conditioning, provide water of just the right temperature, etc. Comfortable way of life in households results in a major share of indirect greenhouse gas emissions. One way to reduce this share is to purchase energy-efficient and technologically top-most appliances, such as the ones manufactured by Gorenje – a company ranked among the best manufacturers of modern appliance for the home.

Cooling
Larger volume does not necessarily imply greater power consumption. In addition to excellent heat insulation, modern refrigerators feature improved door sealing, the most advanced cooling system components, and electronic regulation; when combined, these features reduce power consumption to the minimum.
Power-efficient refrigerators of the A, A+ or A++ class can save up to 25 percent of power.
Additional savings are also enabled by numerous functions like the economy program, holiday program, and the rapid cooling program recommended after major shopping trips. A contemporary consumer with a fast pace of daily life will also appreciate the simplicity of use and the functional design that enables high-quality food storage and saves some time. One such function is undoubtedly the NO FROST system which prevents the accumulation of frost and ice in the freezer to enable full usage of space, and consequently saves some power.
Another feature that can boost your savings is the electronic control system; modern refrigerator models constantly monitor the temperature, thus efficiently managing the use of power. Flashing of temperature display in the refrigerator and freezer warns about unwanted changes; this can be coupled with audible signals. Normal temperature in a refrigerator is between 0 and +5°C; for a freezer, normal temperature is -18°C or lower. If a power failure or any other reasons causes the freezer temperature to rise above -13°C, the appliance shall warn you of such change. If required, audible signal will also warn of refrigerator or freezer door that has been open for too long.

Cooking and baking
Gorenje's prime goal in development and manufacturing of cooking appliances was as low power consumption as possible; in the previous decade, power consumption has already been reduced by over 30 percent. Most Gorenje cooking appliances launched in 2000 were already class A rated. Relative to the earlier generations, these appliances saved 25-percent of energy. All Gorenje cooking appliances introduced in 2008 are rated in energy class A. Additionally, 70 percent of them deliver extra 20 percent of energy savings. Old generation of ovens from 2000 features a 60-litre cavity; the new one offers 65 litres, owing to the innovative HomeMade cavity design that mimics the traditional wood-fired ovens. It allows better cooking results without using any more energy, despite the larger capacity. Gorenje ovens also enable cooking with the use of a fan. Such ovens reduce total power consumption by 10 to 15 percent, compared to conventional ovens where the cooking temperature is lower due to air convection.
Appliance interior is protected by the EcoClean enamel coating which uses its own heat to enable cleaning the appliance without the use of aggressive detergents. The Premium and Exclusive line models also offer the simple cleaning solution called AquaClean, which only requires the use of water.
Another environment-friendly novelty in the market is the 45-centimeter high compact ovens. These appliances match the Premium line ovens by design, while their reduced dimensions make them far more economical as they heat to the desired temperature much faster. For example, if heating to 200°C takes 20 minutes for a conventional oven, the compact oven will be ready and set after only nine minutes. Gorenje ovens also feature safe and power-efficient CoolDoor (CD) technology. Cutting-edge models additionally feature a three-layer temperature-reflecting door glass called UltraCoolDoor (UCD). Excellent door insulation, combined with heat-reflecting layers on the door glass, enhances the oven performance and simultaneously reduces power consumption.
Compact ovens with a height of 45 centimeters take less time and power to heat to desired temperature. They are excellent for smaller households and for cooking semi-prepared food. To heat an already finished meal, we recommend using the microwave oven which does not require preheating. Power savings can amount to as much as 70 percent.
The most power-efficient cooking appliance is the induction hob which brought about a revolution in cooking technology and has established itself as serious competition to conventional glass-ceramic and gas hobs. The key advantages of induction hobs include up to 30 percent faster cooking compared to gas hobs, and up to 40 percent of power savings; however, savings are not restricted to power only: since the area around the pot or pan heats only slightly, any spilt food will not stick or burn to the hob surface, making the maintenance easy, quick, and environment-friendly.

Dishwashing
A dishwasher, yes or no, is no longer a pending question. It has been established time and again, that a dishwasher may be one of the most valuable household appliances that relieves us of time consuming manual dishwashing and saves both water and power. Manual dishwashing requires considerably more water and detergent, thus imposing a more sever load on the environment. A dishwasher can easily remove fat, inactivate bacteria, and provide impeccably clean dishes. On average, water temperature in a dishwasher reaches 65°C, compared to a maximum reached in manual dishwashing, which – due to the sensitivity of our skin – hardly reaches 40°C. Gorenje's 60 cm wide high end class A++ dishwashers for 13 place settings only consume an average of 0.86 kWh of electric power for a 50° washing program. The most economical Gorenje dishwashers consume only 10 litres of water, while 40 to 80 litres of water would be required for washing up the same quantity of dirty dishes by hand.
According to calculations, regular use of dishwasher results in over 20 additional days of spare time per year, saving enough water to fill a bath tub each week, and saving enough electricity to power another household appliance for the entire year; not to mention the impeccably and hygienically clean dishes.
Models with integrated innovative UseLogic® sensor technology automatically perceive the amount of dishes loaded and how soiled they are; hence, selecting a washing program is no longer required. The most advanced models offer an automatic program that offers washing in two different washing zones. A short intensive program – Quick'n'Shine enables halving the washing time as a result of optimization of each phase of the washing cycle. The quick program automatically adjusts the temperature and the quantity of water to deliver excellent washing and drying results in the shortest possible time. Some Gorenje washing machines also enable setting the start of the dishwashing cycle up to 19 hours in advance. Washing during the reduced rate will result in additional savings, and this function facilitates them.

Washing and drying the laundry
In a contemporary household, a washing machine is an indispensable appliance. Particularly families with children or families whose members often engage in sports tend to run their washing machines daily; in such cases, it is even more important to use a washing machine that uses water and power efficiently.
Before choosing a washing machine one should certainly check the energy label; also important is the machine's capacity. A washing machine with a 8-kilogram load is among the most energy efficient appliances and ranks in the A energy class.
A new avarage Gorenje washing machine consumes half less energy and 10 litres less water compared to the average washing machine from 1995. The most advanced washing machines are fitted with a load sensor that enables calculating the optimum detergent quantity and automatically sets the optimum water quantity. Shorter programs and selection of lower temperatures for less soiled laundry or smaller loads, as well as the option of delayed start for running the washing machine during the reduced rate, additionally increase the savings.
Gorenje washing machines also boast a special system that prevents waste of detergent while adding water to the drum. This system, both economical and environment-friendly, reduces detergent consumption by up to 20 percent, thus contributing to preservation of our natural environment.
Just like washing machines, Gorenje dryers are also among the most efficient in the market. Owing to innovative technology of air flow optimization and recycling of hot air generated during drying, the new generation of condenser dryers is classified in the B energy class. Compared to C class, previously the highest class reached by any dryer, this means a considerable 13-percent power saving with significantly shorter drying times.
By setting the spinning speed to 1,600 revolutions per minute instead of 1,000, up to 30 percent of power used for drying can be saved.
