ERICo among the winners of the European Regional Champions Award 2008

Velenje, Slovenia, December 12th, 2008 - The Institute of ecological research ERICo which has been a part of the Gorenje Group for a good year and a half is among the recipients of the European Regional Champions Award 2008, presented by the European Parliament and the Committee on Regional Development. The 30 best projects, selected among 250 nominees, also included the project COOT – Centre of Environment Technology Excellence, in which ERICo is taking part as a key partner. The project is coordinated by the Jožef Stefan Institute and financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The purpose of the award is to identify and acknowledge sound and successful practices and innovations in the EU zone, particularly in those regional projects that can set an example to other regions.

Gorenje in the advanced eco houses

Paris, France, December 12th, 2008 - Having teamed up with the English company ZED Factory (Zero Energy Development Factory) in UK in February this year, Gorenje took another part on November 22nd 2008 in the opening of the first zero energy eco house in France; the house is located in the town of Ville de Grande-Synthe near Dunkerque in the far north of France. Gorenje is a part of the project after it was selected as the best supplier of environment-friendly and energy-efficient household appliances in the market.

Save up to 30 % of energy by washing at 30 ºC

Ljubljana/Maribor, Slovenia, October 18th, 2008 - Gorenje and Ariel organised special events on 16 October on Prešeren Square in Ljubljana and on 17 October in Shopping centre Europark in Maribor for raising awareness among consumers about the importance of efficient washing and reducing the amount of electricity used. The events were supported by Jožef Stefan Institute, Centre for Energetic Efficiency and Bicycle Association of Slovenia and belong to the campaign “You are energy, be efficient” and to the Social Usefulness Network that is carried out by the Agency for integral communication Informa Echo. The City of Ljubljana and the City of Maribor backed up both events.

Gorenje donated 21 trees to the citizens of Velenje on the Earth Day

Velenje, April 22nd, 2008 - On the occasion of the international Earth Day, Gorenje donated to the citizens of Velenje 21 trees gingko biloba for the reviving of the square Titov trg. By organising the tree planting event with participation of Mr. Franjo Bobinac, Gorenje’s CEO and President of the Management Board, Mr. Srečko Meh, Mayor of the City Municipality of Velenje, and Ms. Nina Zbičajnik, a pupil of the Gustav Šilih Primary School from Velenje, Gorenje is encouraging inhabitants of Velenje to take environmentally responsible actions.

The Earth Day event symbolically introduced environment-friendly activities that Gorenje is going to perform in 2008, stressing that contribution of each person is indispensible for the preservation of the planet. Two books entitled Ecofamily – Environmentally Friendly Operation in Order to Preserve the Planet and Ecofamily – Help the Planet with the Informed Behavious, have been published within the initiative of the Eco Family, whereas Gorenje’s employees issued an internal Eco Manifesto declaring that they will be more environment-friendly.

Eco Family initiative - Let us help the planet by responsible conduct

Velenje, April 22nd, 2008 –  To commemorate the Earth day Gorenje presented for the first time the Eco Family initiative to the public. The aim of the initative is to motivate individuals to change their wasteful habits, to introduce energy-efficient technology in their homes, and to seek alternative options. By establishing the Eco Family initiative, Gorenje is extending the framework of thinking about the agents of efforts for a cleaner environment; in addition to asking what I can do as an individual or employee, it seeks to answer how we as society can contribute. Two books entitled Ecofamily – Environmentally Friendly Operation in Order to Preserve the Planet and Ecofamily – Help the Planet with the Informed Behavious, have been published within the initiative of the Eco Family.

Gorenje slim washing machine leads the pack in cost effectiveness

Velenje, Slovenia, March 10th, 2008 - The German Consumers Association, a non-government parent organization for 42 German Consumer Societies, rated the Gorenje Slim washing machine as the most cost effective in the category of 4.5 to 5-kilogram load washing machines. The results published on the Association website show that the appliance was ranked first by the category of cost per washing cycle; this includes the estimation of appliance purchase cost per washing cycle, use of power and water, energy efficiency, washing effect, spinning effect, and number of revolutions per minute during spinning.

Gorenje in the "Zero Carbon House"

London, United Kingdom, February 28th, 2008 - Gorenje contributed a set of high-end, energy efficient household appliances for the "Zero Carbon House" manufactured by the renowned ZEDfactory Ltd practice (ZED standing for Zero (fossil) Energy Development), from Britain, specializing in zero energy developments. The house was presented at Ecobuild, London, Europe's biggest event dedicated to sustainable design and construction. Gorenje is taking part in the project as the best designated provider of environment-friendly and energy-efficient household appliances in the market.

Gorenje proposing the initiative of a new energy label

Velenje, Slovenia, January 31st, 2008 - As a member of the European Committee of Domestic Equipment Manufacturers (CECED), Gorenje proposed the introduction of a new, open-scheme system of labeling household appliance energy efficiency. Modern household appliances produced by European manufacturers have developed to a stage where the existing energy label with its scale has become inadequate. Updating the scheme on the label intended to inform the consumers of appliance energy efficiency, is therefore imperative; European manufacturers have already combined their efforts in the new label introduction project called "Beyond A".

Gorenje among the nominees for the Ecology-Oriented Company 2007

Ljubljana, Slovenia, January 24th, 2008 - At the award ceremony held on Wednesday, January 23rd, at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana, Gorenje, as a nominee for the 'Ecology-Oriented Company 2007' received a special award of gratitude for its efforts in the field of personal and spiritual growth, healthy lifestyle, ecology, social care, and endeavors for a better world in 2007.  The award was presented following a vote from the readers of the website 'pozitivke.net', 'svet-je-lep.net', and the readers of magazines 'Karma' and 'Viva'. As a part of the ceremony, the nominees were also engaged in a round table titled Trends and Guidelines of Sound Practice for the Year 2008. Gorenje was nominated for its clear and concise vision of environment protection and management, and for the refrigerator with the lowest power consumption in its category in the EU.
