This innovative – previously unseen – combination that made its debut at the world's largest consumer electronics fair IFA 2008 in Berlin is yet another result of Gorenje's fruitful innovation. The new project is intended to bring the use of household appliances closer to the contemporary consumer and show how modern information technology can make their use both simple and fun – just the way the user of tomorrow wants them.

Unique combination of electronic entertainment device – the cult iPod touch – and a modern fridge freezer from Gorenje opens up new dimensions of living, fun, cuisine, and household tasks. Specially designed and developed Gorenje fridge features a docking station that enables charging the iPod, playing back music and video through built-in speakers, and connecting to the world-wide-web, if wireless connection is available in the kitchen. iPod has conquered the world, and new Gorenje appliances with interactive functions are conquering contemporary kitchens as they anticipate and set new trends.

The revolutionary wi-fi interface for touch control, paired with the world's most popular music playback device, enables searching, browsing, or downloading contents from the internet, and enjoying music, TV shows, movies, or video podcasts. The combination of the cult playback device and refrigerator thus extends the pleasures offered by each of them. The sound is played back through built-in speakers, while video is displayed on the iPod screen. Wireless internet connectivity complements the functionality of the high-tech refrigerator as various household tasks and appliance operation becomes simpler and above all, more fun. The users can browse and display recipes in text or video format, check the instructions for washing the clothes or – in addition to their favorite music – listen to tips related to household tasks. Gorenje also launched the development of a web portal iGorenje which will offer various contents related to cooking and other household tasks. The portal will be optimized for display on the iPod touch and other mobile devices.

"Made for iPod" means that an electronic accessory has been designed to connect specifically to iPod and has been certified by the developer to meet Apple performance standards. Looking to expand the use of the iGorenje web portal, Gorenje extended its convenient contents by adding a test version of wireless (WiFi) control of some household appliances via a home server to which the appliances are connected. Various mobile devices (mobile phones, PDAs, iPod Touch, laptops, etc.) which have already become a part of our standard carry-on equipment can be used to connect to the iGorenje portal and remotely control an oven or a washing machine; in the future, other electric appliances in the household will be added.

iGorenje web portal enables the user to select the best cooking parameters through a series of short choices. Automatic program selection is identical to the manual oven setting procedure the users are already familiar with. Further facilitating the use of the oven is the selection of preset programs that only require selecting the type of food (meat, vegetables, fish, pastry, etc.) and approximate weight. All other parameters for optimum cooking are determined automatically by the oven. Therefore, the entire cooking procedure only consists of placing the food in the oven, selecting the recipe, and touching the Start icon to confirm the start of the cooking procedure. In addition, the iGorenje portal offers recipes, tips on preparing different types of food, tips on how to surprise your guests, etc.

The option to quickly and simply select the washing program during a short surf through the iGorenje portal, from your work or while on a Sunday daytrip, has become reality. By the time you return home, the laundry will have been washed and you will be able to attend to more pleasant tasks, or spend some time with your dearest ones. A click on the icon of your washing machine on the iGorenje web portal homepage will take you through a simple process of selecting the appropriate washing program for your laundry. The settings are identical to actual settings performed manually on the washing machine thus far. This mode of program selection also enables the simple washing process which only requires you to select the type of fabric and how soiled the laundry is. All that remains is clicking on the Start icon on the iPod Touch screen, and the washing machine will automatically select the optimum washing program. The iPod Touch screen (or any other mobile device) also enables monitoring the washing status, as well as receiving information on washing process completion. The web portal furthermore offers tips for washing, removing individual types of stains, tips on care required by various types of fabric, and many other related contents.
