Environment

Care for the environment is at the top of the priorities listed in our development strategy. Environment protection policy includes the entire life cycle of a product, from design, through manufacturing, and use, to removal after the end of the product's useful life.

By implementing state-of-the-art technology, processes, and materials, we are continuously reducing the volume of waste generated in the production process and the consumption of energy and natural resources (power, water, natural gas, and compressed air). We were among the first in Europe to decrease and subsequently completely abandon the use of ecologically hazardous refrigerants and propellants. In 1998, we introduced the environmentally friendly dust lacquer coating, followed by the technology of dust enamel coating two years later.

We devoted to our search for modern technological solutions for our products and this has been met with enthusiasm and respect by our environmentally conscious consumers. Our goal is to produce appliances that use less power, water, and detergents.

Gorenje is also the co-founder of the company ZEOS, the managing company of a waste electrical and electronic equipment management system. Thus, we have assumed the responsibility for our products after they have been discarded.

As a socially responsible company, we also see our role in education and improving the awareness of our employees and the general public about the environmentally sound conduct. In 2000, Gorenje received the international certificate of integrated environmental management system ISO 14001; in 2004, we also became the first Slovenian company to be entered into the EMAS register.

Consistently with the principles of sustainable development, Gorenje Group devotes close attention to environment protection. Technological processes and equipment are constantly upgraded in order to effectively pursue the company environmental policy.

New Generation Home Appliances

Home appliances are in use every day; some are switched on 24/7, throughout the year. Therefore, their energy efficiency is very important. Home appliances of the new generation use less energy, water, and detergents, emit less noise, and are built with environmentally friendly materials and components.

  • A new avarage Gorenje refrigerator consumes half less of electric power compared to the average refrigerator from 1995.
  • A new avarage Gorenje washing machine consumes half less energy and 10 litres less water compared to the average washing machine from 1995.

European Committee of Domestic Equipment Manufacturers estimates as follows:

  • In Europe, employment of A energy class refrigerators alone could reduce CO2 emissions by 22 million tons per year.
  • If home appliances older than 10 years were replaced with new ones, energy savings would amount to the output of twelve 500 MW coal plants.
